Works like a charm! Registered just to say thanks!

Btw, laucher attached to bug report, wouldn't run, likely because that archive doesn't contain a dll. (or I might downloaded a wrong archive? mantis.wcsaga.com/file_download. ... 0&type=bug )

I updated the start post so that the new launcher can be more easily found. ^^

OK, I downloaded the official new launcher patch, installed it replacing the original files. Started game with the new shortcut and still get the same exact error as before. "The launcher was unable to enumerate the available Open Al devices. Make sure you have OpenAL installed."

I was under the impression that the patch fixed this problem. Am I missing a file I need to install seperately to get the sound to work?

Note that when you install the game, you have the option to install OpenAL, but you need to manually select it. This is because many people will already have OpenAL installed, and we don't want to install multiple copies as a "default" behavior.

I have OpenAL installed, although I did run the installer included with WCS at some point just to see if it would help matters.

When I installed the first release of the game, I did see some different options like Generic Software / SDPif / and I think one or two others.. But once I installed the fixed launcher in this thread I am only able to see Generic Software - and even after the patch that was released..

I know its probably not a big deal.. But it is a pet peeve of mine, I have an OpenAL card and I like avoid "generic software" where possible.. I find it odd that I can't see any device except Generic Software in any case.

I was also curious to know if the game audio is vanilla 2.0 Stereo, or if it supports any surround modes, etc? Positional audio is a big deal for me especially in space combat sims, as I like to be able to tell which direction sounds are coming from during a fight if the game supports it..

It's another reason I like being able to use my sound hardware, as I have to send it to a specific device listing, to make sure that positional audio and stuff gets correctly encoded to Dolby Digital Live before being sent to my receiver.
