If you failed it often enough the game should offer you to skip it. But maybe you want to give it another go with the tips and hints in this thread or by just lowering the difficulty for this one mission?

I have tried the suggestions. Turned the difficulty down. I really appreciate all the suggestions but I guess I just suck. I can kill two of the missiles. One seems to get through every time. However, I don't see the game giving me any options to skip. Where and when would I see it?

Well, I finally got through it somehow. Parked a little farther behind the Battleaxe. About 100000 meters. That gave me a little more time to lock on and kill the missiles. This mission is a bear and I am lame. I never did get the option to move on and skip. Dunno what was wrong.

Congrats on beating it. About the repeat screen, I'll have to look it up but I tnought it was after 5 failures. But I'm not 100% sure. However you beat it! :) Have fun in the next few missions. Consider it a mastered bossfight

The last prologue mission has no 'continue'.

But that may be because it is the last & prologue.

So, I don't know if this demands for a new topic, but if you fail a mission five times, will it just automatically skip or will that happen when you restart, or how?

Idk how often I failed a mission, so some way to keep track of that would be great. I think there was one mission I tried more than five times, but I always used the "quick start mission" option, instead of going through the briefing again.

I guess the game only counts five failed attempts if you completely restart, briefing and all?

I'm also at the Battleaxe mission. I died more than once by getting pwned by a missile blast. I tend to fly too close to them and their huge hitboxes. I often manage ^^ to stay close to exploding capships and make it through a mission on 1-4% hull strength.

What's really great about this game are the missions. They are not a practice in game design but in story telling and you really get to feel sorry about not saving that transport or this ship, because maybe it could have made a change; if not make you feel better about your flying...

Great game!

For the game to count your failure you have to either die or end up in the debriefing. If you simply hit ESC and restart, the game will not consider that a failure.

Feels like I already had five playthroughs, but I might have skipped some endings. (After failing the mussion I wait for the debriefing and go to flight deck or restart, correct?)

It's good to know you have to finish a mission and not just wait for the message. However, this particular mission is demanding. I don't see the Skippers and the small time frame I see them isn't long enough to nail them before they hit the Axe; not all of them. It would be a good challenge, if the outcome wasn't so random. There doesn't seem to be a really good strategy, except watching the Battleaxe's behind and keeping fingers crossed...

I can beat this mission on every playthrough, if you are fast enough you can destroy the launcher of both corvettes before they even fire second skipper, you just have to take care of the first one on your way to the corvettes. Another solution already mentioned is to stick with the Battleaxe and take down skippers as they uncloak near the capship (remember to use the B key!) and take them out with IR missiles (Image Recognition - that was always a bit confusing with Infra Red which in WC are HS - Heat Seekers) that you should save for this occasion or if you are good shot - with guns only leaving your friends to take care of the corvettes.

Edit: a good way to take out the launcher is to position yourself at the side (where the launcher is located) of the corvette while matching speed with it and going into autoslide - then you can just turn into the launcher and take it out with full guns while flying sideways.

Thanks for the tips. I think there are no questions left at this point. Except - can you speed up time in DD? I guess the shift-, and shift-. options in the list are leftovers from Freespace 2?
