Ace wrote: Yes, IR missles are the way to go. Rather than go after the launcher, I just positioned myself directly behind the engines of the Battleaxe about 8000km out facing directly at the engines so I'm following them, automatch speed to the Battleaxe, then engage glide mode and then spin around to face the corvette. Make sure you are using the IR missiles. You'll need at least 3, but 4 is good in case you miss and need to fire another. Then just keep pressing "R" to target the closest attacking thing. Eventually you'll see a skipper show up. The first time the missile decloaks it'll be out or range, that's fine keep waiting, Eventually, they'll decloak a second time and should be in range to acquire a missile lock and then fire away. There isn't much time to get the lock and fire so you've got to be quick about it. When the missile is destroyed, keep pushing "R" again. I did this on super easy mode. It might not worker on harder difficulty.

You better just hit 'B'. That selects any bombers or bombs (including skippers) in the area. That will make sure you select only the skipper.

Did I mention that Glide was mentioned both in the readme and the manual? Still, we'll see if we can add an ingame tooltip at some point in the game. ;)

Fourth time was, in fact, the charm. Three imrecs, three skippers, three pretty explosions...and two dead corvettes in the background. Also, yeah, no kidding I was getting into the Thuds shortly, and promotion wasn't long in coming. Great stuff. Also, some interesting missions.

Loving some of the references - the 'green goop' from Freedom Flight, the troopship "R. Lee Ermey", hitting Bluepoint station...you guys have got humor, references to previous games, AND references to the books. Awesome work.

General Note: Glide may be in the readme and the manual, but if you change the name to 'AutoSlide', it'll be instantly recognizable to players of at least WC4 (oh, I love sliding around in a Banshee!). Might be worth noting in the tutorial, too - though that involves actual work.

Minor Nitpick: is it just me, or do you spend ages as the most decorated 2nd Lieutenant ever? Seriously, 3 bronze stars and a silver star? 2 campaign ribbons, the ace, ace of aces, and century medals? And I'm still a frakking 2nd Lieutenant for another 6 or 8 missions? Shouldn't your promotion happen when you hit sector HQ? Seriously now. I wouldn't care nearly as much except that getting the rank actually does something (changing loadout) which is quite helpful.

Question: since guns are shown on the loadout screen just like missiles, do we ever get the chance to swap out our guns, too? I'd love to ditch those power hog plasmas for another pair of mesons.

Nope? we don't offer that since it would be unrealistic. The Space Force fighters have all the gun mounts integreated tightly into the fighter's frame. The engine offers the possibility though so maybe if someone wants to do some kind of a privateer or pirate mod later on, there it would fit. But not in Saga. Just missiles for you ;)

Thx. I didn't know about the B. There's a lot of commands to remember. I didn't know about the Glide afterburner trick even though I was aware of the feature. The glide feature in the past and in the manual is painted as a way of pointing your ship in one direction while travelling in another. You might want to consider changing the description in the manuals to highlight the physics of the glide (ie, using already built-up momentum to move the ship) if the intent was to have the user come to this realization of the afterburner trick on their own. Just my two cents.

I'm loving the game and thank you guys immensely. I don't know how else to describe it, but it just "feels" like wing commander. You've gotten everything just right.

We MIGHT add a little training message to that mission to remind the player of the Glide function.

I keep hearing reference to IR missiles having preference over other missiles. The IRs are nice and you don't need a heat plume for them to lock on to; however, the IR missile doesn't pack the same punch as a heat seeker and in some missions, you want all the punch you can get.

In the mission being referenced here, IRs are a good choice if available...(1) to target the Corvette's Missile tube and (2) to target the Skipper Missiles.

OMFG It didn't even occur to me to Glide LOLOLOLOLOL

Since they all die anyways, I just normal speeded it and saved the few for intercepting Skipper missiles. Took me 3 tries with a very long trip.

Ok, so I must have tried and failed this mission more than 5 times. How do you skip it?
