The "punishment" is already there. You'll have to do the same mission again, have to fight the very same enemies.
And not sitting idle. If sitting idle is supposed to be the punishment, you could aswell just introduce a new screen that simply counts down from 120. Same effect.
The idea behind playing a mission again is (should be?) to learn from your mistakes, to better your skill. Which ultimately is rewarding in itself. Just waiting and doing nothing isn't.

You're more punishing than the original WC games this way. Not sure if this is intentional or not.

Nobody is forcing you to not lower the difficulty you know. And yes punishing the player for playing in a too high difficulty level is supposed to happen. And no, Wing Commander punished you just as much as this. Anybody remember a long approach to a planetary mission in wc4 just to be blown up at the last nav point by a stupid missile turret? Or that mission where you hunt the jammer ship, a lot of blah blah, even a cutscene in the middle, just be blown up near the end.

Sorry but that is exactly how we wanted it.

I think you do not fully comprehend the situation here: you can't skip dialogue in the Freespace engine. At the same time our intention was to provide a strong story that is grounded in the Wing Commander universe and offered compelling characters in thought provoking situations without ressorting to CGI cutscenes or real actors. Because, you know, we do not have a budget.

Yes, you are punished for dying in the same way you are being punished in Dark Souls for dying. The thing is: in the end you will get a much more fulfilling gaming experience. It is all down to your skills and using the right tactic.

That is just a stupid remark!

If you keep punishing us by having to go over x lines of sometimes mediocre dialogue en 3 waypoint, well punish you by not playing and saying the game could have been great ... but isnt.

Effective immediately there will be very little tolerance policy on any form of abuse towards developers, moderators or other Community members.

Don't you think that's a little harsh? Don't you think KeldorKatarn made an "unfortunate" remark? In other words he elicited such a response?

As mentioned before, we will not tolerate any abuse on this boards, especially towards the developers of the game. Insulting us is not the way to ask for help or to request any balancing alterations.

I don't think so, I merely stated a question. If dying is not punishing to the player, what's the point of letting him die at all?

Also again, nobody is forcing you to keep playing on higher difficulty levels. it is basically you imposing that upon yourself, so frankly I don't really see the problem here.

Either the game is too difficult for you and you die more often than you'd like -> Solution: Reduce difficulty level. That's what it's there for.

Or the game is not too hard and you don't die -> No problem because no dying results in no lenghty dialogue that needs to be repeated.

Please forgive me if I don't see the logic in opposing a higher difficulty level on oneself and then complaining about it being too hard.

I'm well aware that todays games are designed around every gamer basically beating hard difficulty with one arm ties behind his back. This game isn't. And that was a consious decision and frankly that is all we have to say to that.

Ah I see, I have a different viewpoint. My attitude is to challenge my skills. So if I can walk through it on easy I will try medium!

Dying is expected! In fact it just means I am at the edge of my ability! GREAT, that's what I want
(and many with me I think). The game should punish me by the difficulty of the action!

At least that is how I see it. I don't think the game should have a "save" option. On the other hand It would put me right into the action... where I want to be, no skipping 3 way-points no dialogue I've heard 5 times....
