In Freespace you didn't jumped around, the battlefield was mostly confined just like in x-Wing/Tie Fighter.

To be fair, we'll add a "Alt+A" hint to the first nav point in Mission 1 so more people will get how this works ;)

I have played WC1 just a few weeks ago and it takes quite some time to get to the next nav point. It is a bit shorter, there I agree but frankly I would have never thought that anyone would try to fly the distances in realtime.

I mean in Saga there is a counter under the navpoint that is droping very slowly. After 10 minutes I would have activeted the autopliot because I would realise that it would take most likely another 10 minutes to get to the next point.

Still this is one of the funniest "bugs" I have ever heard of...sorry pal ^_^
Just use the autopilot and have some fun.

I never played wing commander before so it took me 30-40 minutes before I realized what auto pilot was meant to do.

I pretty much remember always using the AP even in WC1 and 2. You could do long burns to maneuver off-course so that your AP would only be interrupted by scripts or unavoidable obstacles.
