Black Screen after debriefing

first of all: GREAT Game !
its really been a while since i had a reason to dust of my joystick

after i installed it i had a little problem getting the joystick to work ( didn't react at all ) but i figured out what to do thanks to this forum

but now i ran into a problem that prevents me to play any longer

i finished the prologue without a problem, and after the second ( or was it the third ? cant remember... ) mission of the main campaign i got a black screen right after the debriefing of the mission...

and since then every time i try to continue the campaign i get the same black screen right after the loading screen.

whats also odd: if i try to terminate the process wcsaga_sse2.exe via the task manager it takes about ~10 Minutes till its gone

my system:
Intel Core 2 Quad 3hz
Radeon HD 6900 ( i did try catalyst 12.3 but didnt help )
4gig ram

i didn't find any log files to attach :


can anyone help ? i really wanna play the rest of the game

Try starting it with administrator rights. Also there's a debug build linked in these forums. Try starting the mission with that build if the first tip doesn't help. We'll get it to work, just keep us informed about what works and what doesn't.

all i can find are posts where you talk about it but no info/link on where to get it

got the link to the debug build and tried it... didnt help
still the same black screen, still takes really long to end the process...

but i got a new log file that wasn´t there before: fs2_open.log ( attached it )
maybe that helps...

i noticed one change: the process still takes ~10min to end after it crashed, but after about ~9min. i hear the first 1-2sec of the briefing o_O... strange.

Ok, give the developers just a little time to review the log and try to find out what the problem is. They've been really good at being able to find recommendations to get the game up and running for pilots with differing issues.

As a side note for trouble shooting from the simple items first, make sure you don't have alot of adware or other hidden junk files eating up space (run a good spyware scanner and then a virus checker). Also, try closing non-essential programs, this makes sure you are opening more space as well as eliminating possible program conflicts. These suggestions may have nothing to do with your problem, but if nothing else, they will help give you the RAM to run the game smooth when you start getting into conflict with large numbers of ships and debris.

i know that it might take some time

and im aware of the basics too thanks anyway


PS:

i tried to restart the campaign and it worked: i could play again...
at least until the same point as before: mission debriefing ( after mission 2 ).
as soon as i end the mission debriefing i get a black screen, same as before.

so my problem seems to be specific to that point in the game

still trying daily in hopes of a spontaneous self fixing problem


maybe someone would take my savegame, play the third mission and then give it back to me.
that way i could see if only the mission briefing of mission 3 is producing the problem...

maybe i can play the rest of the game without another error...
