[spoiler:1lte5sp9]Im just doing the campaign ... did the Fort Crocket part.
In the end kithrathi launched cap missiles en masse on it ... i didnt try to help them :-)
when the several minute long dialoque finishes my wingmates leave me with the comment "you´re on your own now, sandman" and leave me ... a moment later i die alone in space without enemy contact.

done it a second time now in a row ... and not feeling like trying it more times ....

any ideas?[/spoiler:1lte5sp9]

You probably broke formation. you have to stay in formation with your wingleader, read: stay closer to him than ~30,000. You probably went right ahead while the other guys were stopping. If you break formation Baws will consider you a lost cause. He repeatedly orders you to stay in formation.

Also make sure you keep staying in formation once the wing starts to retreat. If you let them fly home and you stay put...[/spoiler:2chq8uvi]

Of course you have to do it manually. Which is hard considering that most of the time Alpha wing just sits still. ;)

Oh, why circle them? Why not just stay put next to them when they stand still and then just fly next to them when they start flying home?

yeah ok.

still stupid that im thinking hard if i should try to fly back to get the cap missiles, but decide against it and still fail the mission ... i could believe this might happen to many people.

Why is everybody just trying to charge head first into battle without waiting for orders? ;)

You have to stay in formation with your flight - keep them in view when they stop midway and follow them when they head back for the Hermes.

As a general reference, you should *always* stay within a reasonable distance of your wing leader. If he stops, you stop; if he goes, you go. Go check your rank again if you're confused about who's in charge...otherwise, stay in formation.
