For me the problem with not having checkpoints is that you have to sit through the dialogue again when you die. In BtRL we solved this in a different way. Although we could have added checkpoints (I did in fact start doing this) we instead recorded multiple versions of the dialogue. This meant that if you died, you got to listen to something new instead and it wasn't so annoying.

Now I understand that would have been a much harder way to solve the issue for WCS with it's 50 missions compared to BtRL's 2 but it is another way to avoid the problem without reducing the difficulty.

It is also worth bearing in mind that it is quite possible to make checkpoints work on the easy/very easy difficulty setting while leaving them off in harder settings. Diaspora has a few examples of things like that.

Oh jesus fuck GET A LIFE... topic closed. Jesus fuck. Talk about beating a dead horse that's already turned into salami.

Oh yes... and from now on expect to be treated as you would expect in real life as soon as you start insulting team members in their own home.

I can remember playing an Apache Attack Helicopter game in the early 90s that was not only difficult, but when you got killed, you were dead. You had to start the entire game over with a new character. With WCS, as difficult as it may seem to have to live through the same dialog x number of times, fly the same route x number of times, until you win the mission, it will teach you an important life lesson – don’t take things for granted. In fact each time you fly a mission again, it grants you the opportunity to learn from your previous mistakes and fly the mission slightly differently.
I enjoy having checkpoints in many of the games I play, but I also find for myself and in talking with other players, we tend to rely too much on checkpoints to save us and give us the ability to advance through the game quickly, rather than enjoying the game for what it is.
