WC Saga experience and feedback

First of all let me introduce myself.

My name's Carlos Teixeira, i'm 29 years old from Portugal.

Being a complete Wing Commander addict since i was a kid, i have to say this is an absolutely wonderful effort. I just started experimenting with the game and it's amazing how a work of love can blast past many games that cost millions of dollars. A million times thanks.

Additionally, i wish with every fiber of my body that you keep expanding WC Saga. With that said, i always wondered when reading the Wing Commander timeline on CIC site how cool would it be to have some sort of prequel to the Wing Commander series. For me it is so exciting to think about flying Hornets (which i hated BTW), Scimitars, Rapiers and Raptors in this absolutely stunning game engine that i believe you guys modified. I imagine a campaign set somewhat before Christopher Blair and Todd Marshall ever arrived in the Tiger's Claw. Maybe there is something worth in the novels to explore this. This is definitely my ultimate wish. If someday it happens by this amazing team's work, i'll know right before i'm playing it it will be amazing. Reliving all those classic fighters is a wet dream for me!

Playing WC Saga for the last 2 days has been such an amazing experience that i have to say i'm pretty excited about it. ANd the more i think of it the more i wish for a prequel campaign to Wing Commander 1, that allows us to fly with Scimitars, Hornets and Raptors vs the dreaded Dralthi, Salthi and Jalthi among others...

I just finished Prologue Luke. Man the last mission is intense!!! And so hard!

Well i'll keep hoping that they would do 1 more. I mean, we have seen how the war with the Kilrathi ends and how it developed through the eyes of Blair, and now with Saga we've seen from another character's perspective.

But... We only know how it started, i think it would be great to have the opportunity to see what happened in 2629 when the TCS Iason was destroyed and 5 years later when Anna Magdalena was destroyed and the confederation declared war on the Kilrathi. Maybe a campaign set in 2634, when the McAullife Ambush happened and also the classic fighters in Wing Commander 1 were in service. And maybe we could fly as... GEOFF TOLWYN. I mean considering how the war ended and the dramatic end of WC IV, this would be going full circle!

Anyways, i understand that devs are probably tired but i really think it would be worth it.

Well, the good news for you is that there are already some modders (including at least two WCS team members, I am one of them) working on more stuff to play.

There are at least two mods that will include several ships (almost all in fact) from WC1+2 and stories in earlier stages of the war, and I am working on a mod that will let you play the Kilrathi side in a small campaign and include flyable Kilrathi ships. I may also include some WC1+2 designs in later versions of my mod.
If you are interested in WCS mods you should check wcnews.com and hard-light.net regularly.

The thing is: It is a lot of work, especially if you want a halfway decent story and/or voiceovers. And then you are still miles away from what was required for creating Saga. So it takes a lot of time and I won't blame the people who did the biggest parts of Saga all those years if they don't want to do anything more like that.

But you can help to make it happen! Especially if you have one or more of the following skills:
- voice recording and editing
- 2D design (vector and/or pixel graphics)
- texturing
- UV-mapping
- 3D modeling
- mission editing
- story writing
- coding

Most mods need those, and some of those aren't too hard to learn, for example creating missions with FRED. There is a lot of help for that in the hard-light.net forums.

Good to know there is early stuff in the works. Can you provide me links to those mods in specific?

Also i would love to help, but my only help in that department would be writing story... Maybe learn how to work with FRED... I would love to design missions with older fighters...
