Time Compression in WC Saga?

Several people have been asking how they can skip the in mission dialog and get straight to the action.

Freespace 2 had a time compression function that you could use to speed through any boring parts. This function is still listed as a command in the in game menus, but I couldn't get it to work.

Has time compression been disabled in WC Saga?

My understanding is that the time compression function, when used, caused mission Events to be skipped. This was a problem as such skipping in a mission's event chain would break the mission. As such Time Compression was disabled to prevent the issue from occurring.

Exactly. The feature is still present, but our missions override it. Mods will be able to use it though if they so desire.

So the very first mission literally has you flying in a straight line, doing nothing, for many minutes, and there's no way to speed it up? This may be realistic, but it seems ... odd ... in a game or narrative.

Use the autopilot feature (ALT-A) when the AUTO indicator in the HUD lights up.

Aha! I'd forgotten about autopilot. That makes the mission MUCH less absurd.
