Terran-Kilrathi War Timeline

2629.105 — First Contact

The Terran Confederation exploration vessel Iason encounters an unknown spacecraft near the Vega Sector border. Commander Jedora Andropolos transmits a wide-band, multi-frequency greeting in accordance with standard first-contact protocols. The alien ship opens fire without warning or provocation. The Iason’s crew is destroyed. There are no survivors. Humanity has met the Kilrathi Empire.

2630–2634 — The Silent War

In the years following the Iason incident, scattered reports filter back to Confed Intelligence — unexplained piracy, mysterious disappearances, kidnappings traced to a world called Kilrah. The Confederation government enforces a strict non-aggression policy, hoping for a diplomatic resolution. Behind the scenes, the Kilrathi are probing, testing, preparing.

2634.186 — The Anna Magdelena Massacre

The Kilrathi attack the civilian transport Anna Magdelena, killing all aboard — including a group of orphaned children being relocated to foster homes. Public outrage is instantaneous and overwhelming. The Terran Confederation formally declares war on the Empire of Kilrah. The largest conflict in human history has begun.

2634.228 — The McAuliffe Ambush

Confed Intelligence officer Ches M. Penney intercepts and partially deciphers a Kilrathi military cipher, revealing an apparent build-up at McAuliffe. The 7th Fleet deploys to intercept. It is a trap. The Kilrathi force is quadruple the expected size. In the ensuing battle, nearly 70% of the Confederation Navy is destroyed in a single engagement. The war is barely weeks old, and humanity is already on the brink of annihilation.

2639.033 — The Battle of Enyo

The Kilrathi occupy the Enyo system. Captain Geoffrey Tolwyn leads a daring counterattack, deploying Raptor-class heavy fighters and newly developed Porcupine space mines to devastating effect. The Kilrathi are forced to retreat — the first significant Terran victory of the war. Tolwyn’s reputation as a brilliant tactician is cemented.

2644 — Custer’s Carnival

One of the bloodiest engagements of the war. The TCS Tiger’s Claw provides cover for a massive Terran retreat under overwhelming Kilrathi assault. The carrier loses three-fourths of her engine capacity and half her pilots are killed or missing. The Tiger’s Claw spends six months in spacedock for emergency repairs. The surviving pilots are awarded the Confederation Medal of Valor.

2654.287 — Venice and Repleetah

In the Venice system, Confederation forces locate and destroy an Imperial starbase, a major logistics hub for Kilrathi operations in the sector. Meanwhile, the Battle of Repleetah begins — a grinding campaign of trench warfare and attritional combat that will drag on for more than three years.

2654.326 — The Goddard Colony Massacre

The Kilrathi unleash a devastating new weapon on the Goddard Colony, killing a quarter of a million civilians in a single strike. The TCS Tiger’s Claw is dispatched in pursuit and successfully tracks down and destroys the Sivar-class dreadnought responsible for the attack. The weapon is neutralized, but the cost is beyond measure.

2653–2655 — The Firekka Campaign

The Kilrathi select the Firekka system — home to the avian Firekkans — as the site for their sacred Sivar ceremony. Prince Thrakhath personally oversees operations. In a critical intelligence coup, Kilrathi noble Ralgha nar Hhallas defects to the Confederation, providing vital information. Terran marines are deployed to the surface and successfully disrupt the Sivar ceremony, dealing a significant blow to Kilrathi morale and religious authority.

2656–2667 — The Enigma Sector Campaign

The war shifts to the Enigma Sector. The TCS Tiger’s Claw is ambushed and destroyed by Kilrathi stealth fighters — a new technology that renders ships invisible to sensors. The Confederation eventually develops countermeasures, and pilots from the TCS Concordia locate and destroy the Kilrathi sector headquarters at K’Tithrak Mang. The Battle of Repleetah finally ends around 2664 after a decade of continuous combat.

2667 — Pembroke and Ghorah Khar

Pembroke Station comes under sustained assault. The Rigel Supply Depot is wracked by mutiny as war-weary personnel crack under the pressure. On the Kilrathi side, the Ghorah Khar rebellion erupts — dissident Kilrathi lords challenge the authority of the Imperial throne. Prince Thrakhath is briefly captured by Terran forces but manages to escape, an intelligence failure that will haunt Confed for years.

2668 — The False Peace

Terran strike forces hit nine Kilrathi carriers under construction — a desperate preemptive attack. The Kilrathi suddenly sue for peace. The Confederation, exhausted and bleeding, accepts. It is a trap. During the armistice, the Kilrathi launch a devastating surprise offensive. Warsaw, Gilead, and Sirius Prime are destroyed. Suicide missions by Confed pilots manage to destroy three Kilrathi super carriers, but not before Earth itself is hit — Chicago, Pittsburgh, Boston, Miami, Quebec, Berlin, Paris, and Kiev all suffer orbital bombardment.

2669 — The Present Day

The war grinds on. The Kilrathi and Terran fleets are locked in a bloody stalemate, each side too battered to deliver a killing blow, neither willing to surrender. Casualties on both sides are measured in the millions. Somewhere, in a classified Confed research facility, scientists are working on a weapon that could end the war once and for all. But for the pilots on the front lines — for the men and women of the TCS Hermes — there is only the next mission, the next sortie, the next fight to survive.

The darkest dawn is yet to come.
