Mission Editor Released

We have finally brought you Wing Commander Saga’s mission editor. Along with giving players the ability to create new missions for Wing Commander Saga, the kit comes with an autopilot template for the game. That’s right, you can now create missions that offer the flyby sequences that were a central part of the Wing Commander ethos, offering a much shorter wait time between nav points and also a cinematic flair that has always been a trademark of Wing Commander.
We have decided to make something special to help you get the hang of our tools. We have created a loose remake of the first two missions in Wing Commander 3. Our demo package features the original voice-overs of Mark Hamil, Jason Bernard, and the other classic WC3 actors who were highlighted in the first two missions. Briefing and launch sequences are also included. You can grab the package here. The process of creating those missions was documented and an early tutorial draft has been included.
What are you waiting for? Grab the tools, and start modding your wingnut heart out. For all your modding questions, please post on our forums.

Hey how would you rate the level of difficulty for picking learning to use these tools. Should people stay away generally unless they already have some freespace modding/freding experience?

Having some FREDing experience is not required but it would make your life easier.
Big thanks for releasing mission editor. I had a lot of fun with it (like 8 hours). I put various capships and even entire fleets against each other, and made some experiments as who would win in this situation. Looking forward to making my own campaign for WCS if I have enough time.
if i make a mission and save it and start wing commander saga, it says it coudlnt open the mission:Couldn't open mission 'duel.fs2'
ntdll.dll! NtWaitForSingle Object + 21 bytes
kernel32.dll! WaitForSingleOb jectEx + 67 bytes
kernel32.dll! WaitForSingleOb ject + 18 bytes
wcsaga_sse2.exe! wcsaga_sse2.exe! wcsaga_sse2.exe!
What now?
Hey there!I want to start out by saying how delightfully impressed I am with all the hard work the team has done with WC Saga. A couple weeks ago I finished my first play-through of the game, and have to say the experience was actually more enjoyable for me than those offered by most of the official titles in the franchise. It's wonderful that you all saw the project through to fruition!
More recently I was tempted to experiment a bit with the mission editor but found that whenever I try to run it there is a long prompt which begins with, "Game files not found." WC Saga is already installed on my PC, so far as I can tell I didn't tamper with any of the files, but there might be a chance that I moved the game files from their original directory to another and simply forgot about it. Re-installing the game aside, do you have any advice to share on what to do so that I can get FRED up and running properly?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Please make sure that you have placed the mission editor inside the install directory.
The WCSaga has quickly become one of my "best games ever", and I can't wait to play the original WC3 saga, it would be totally awesome (including all precious details like taunting enemies, movies, original musics, Comms and so on!). My only regret is that FS2 engine doesn't seem to allow cockipts (I had read somewhere there is a MOD for that, but I don't know if it could work here or not)To all DEVs, you have my greatest thanks for your unbelievable job.
I had forgotten how great the original Wing Commander games were! WC Saga brings buckets of nostalgia in a technologically updated package. With an original and compelling storyline to parallel WC3, this game has everything! Most importantly, the overall professional production elements are evident at every turn: Perfectly cast voice-acting; painstakingly rendered 3D models; an unsurpassed knowledge of the Wing Commander universe/timeline. WC Saga, may have taken 10 years from conception to release, BUT the time spent has certainly been accounted for, in this love-filled homage.
They say: "You'll never forget your first time."
Well apparently, I DID...but WC Saga reminded me! ;)
Much Thanks Guys!
