With the game getting ready to launch soon, we are working hard on ironing out remaining issues, so that you will get the game that you want and deserve.
Regarding our current progress: I will say the entire team is really psyched right now about the way things are coming together. We think that the energy and synergy we are finding right now will really show in the final product. So while you wait for the next chapter in the unique Wing Commander franchise, we've got some brand new screenshots to share with you. More after the jump.
In these screenshots you'll see some glimpses of various star system as well as our upgraded lighting and shielding system. For anyone hungry for more, we've also added some additional video material to our YouTube channel. Fans of the Wing Commander III designs will not be disappointed. Take a look!

Love the news post and new media updates? I was just wondering what do you mean by new/upgraded shielding system?
Hy WC-Saga Team, the screenshots are looking good so far :)
I love the textures of the Arrow and the other fighters but in the last screenshot of the Excalibur i can see that the textures are blocky or in a lower resolution.
Is this the final version of the Excalibur or maybe only a not so good point of view?
But it all in all its amazing work, especially the Kilrathi capships are very amazing!
And of course i know its only a fanproject ... which looks better than some full price game.

It's fairly straight forward. KeldorKatarn, our resident coding genius, rewrote most parts of the shield code. One of the things being fixed was the "shield piercing" bug. Shield rendering code has been heavily modified as well. Shield impact effects are now better looking than they were ever before. Take a closer look at capital ships in the latest screenshots.

Originally textures were crisp and clear. The thing is: FSOpen is a 32-bit application and as such, it comes with one serious limitation. A 32-bit application can't address more than 2 GB of RAM. The 2GB limit is deeply embedded in the versions of Windows for 32-bit CPUs: there is nothing we can do about it. This can cause problems in missions, which utilize many different texture maps - quite a bit of information has to be crammed into the 2GB. This is simply an architectural limitation of 32-bit Windows. We had no choice, but to compress normal maps - hence the artefacts you are seeing in the Excalibur close up. Not that it matters ingame - the gameplay is fast paced and usually you won't have much time for "sightseein g" – all you have to worry about is how to survive. ;)
