Know Your Shipmates: Confed Capital Ships - Entry 5: Tallahassee
FROM: Rear Admiral Tolwyn, CINCWEAPONSDIVISION

For this update, the Saga team is proud to show the final version of the Terran heavy cruiser. The Tallahassee-class is a vessel that has been a staple in the Wing Commander games and a fan favorite. We see one such vessel, the TCS Ajax, serve as an escort for the TCS Victory in Wing Commander 3. One of the staff’s favorite moments during WC3 was when the Ajax fought and destroyed a Kilrathi heavy cruiser in a ship-to-ship battle.
Our fans who played the Prologue would remember the cruisers Juneau and Dover during the last campaign mission. These two cruisers would be featured in the introduction of the False Colors novel.
In Wing Commander 4, we see other ships of the class in service with Fleets of both the Terran Confederation and the Union of Border Worlds
The Terran heavy cruiser is a powerful vessel that can take and dish out considerable amounts of punishment. Its “brute force” concept of firepower is centered about a keel-mounted Mk III Plasma Cannon and several batteries of Anti-Matter Guns and missile tubes. They also can deploy a small detachment of fighters and utility craft from their hangar bay for independent flight operations. As invaluable fire-support for fleet operations and orbital bombardments, Tallahassee-class cruisers are warships that any Admiral wouldn’t mind having more of.

very nice :) my favorit capship in wc3 ;)
Quote : Doe's the keel mounted plasma gun fire? I think in the prelude thay only used there turrents
It will not fire in our campaign due to balancing reasons. It should be easy enough for modders to add a working cannon to the gun's location later.
Some of the weaponry is just optics sorry, but we thought it best to add it anyway to make the ships more complex and to give future modders a few placeholders/hints for additional weaponry ;)

It will not fire in the Saga campaign? Pleaseeee, take that back immidiately! I WANT at leas 1 mission where a Kilrathy ship (possibly a carrier :-) gets polverised to space dust by that keel-mounted Mk III Plasma Cannon. Just 1 mission.........

I'm sorry here. The Plasma gun was added purely to make the Talahassee a more detailed and complete ship. it was never planned to use the gun in mission design. We don't have any settings, graphics or sound for the gun and to develop and test and rebalance it, then deactivate it in all missions in which it shouldn't be used on all ships that could use it... That is going to be a lot of work and we are not willing to postpone release because of that.
If modders want to add the gun later for their own missions we will most likely be available to help you with that.
Ok, thx for the answer. I guess it would be a motherload of work to change all the mission parameters and re-test everything and rebalance the various missions. So I guess it's better to leave it like it is for the sake of a quick final release. After it is finished, modders can (maybe) add it in the form of "how to win the war with 1 single super-turbo-badass talahassee mod" :-P
