The official name is Southampton, Sheffield was just a fan name for it, before EA defined the official name.
In our game the Southampton does only have shuttles and each Talla has 5 Fighters. This doesn\'t say however that they couldn\'t carry more. Just that in our campaign they have those numbers.
The southampton however is unlikely to have much of a fighter capacity. The hangar is pretty much just a shuttle landing bay. Maybe a few Arrows or Ferrets or something could launch there, but a destroyed isn\'t really meant to be a fighter platform.

The turret gun look very nice and the attention to detail is fantastic. Again a great update from the Saga Team! Every time I look at your images, I have a flashback from the times of Wing Commander 3 and Tie Fighter :grin Can\'t wait for the final release to be ready for download. It will be again like in the old days when I was at school and I would rush home and play WC3 24/7 instead of studying :p

This ship looks really cool. Damn good as i think. At first i thought that the vertical launchers were some kind of rescuepod-launchers but now i know what it is :-D .
I hope you will release some pictures of the Yorktown-Class in the next time, i love this shipdesign.

It has been awhile since I have commented here. I must say that the new Southampton-class destroyer is looking petty good. It appears to have both forward Anti-ship missile tubes and a VLS array. As I was hoping that the final version of some of the heavy hitters would gain some additional missile/torpedo capability it is just what I hoped for. I am not yet sold on the new turret design though. To me they look more vulnerable than the older design, like they are light mounts with weather shields for auto-cannon rather than armored turrets for heavy guns.
Still all of the detail with the weapons and hanger bay points to a ship with a lot more story telling/mission design options than before. I am imagining carrying out covert scouting missions with a pare of fighter from the new flight deck or witnessing a medium range missile duel with its Kilrathi counterpart.
I am looking forward to seeing what you have done with the rest of the ConFed fleet.

This sounded odd to me. Should not the Tallahassee-class have 4 or 6 fighters so as to provide ether two or three complete leader and wingman elements? With 5 fighters in a flight someone would be without a wingman.
