Welcome to the latest Saga news update! This week, we are very pleased to announce that the highly skilled composer Jeff Ball has signed on to work on the music production and sound design for Wing Commander Saga. Jeff's unique range of work and talent will bring the soundtrack for Saga to a new level.
About the composer
Jeff composes dramatic and feature-enhancing music for games, film, and television. Being self-taught compositionally, he has developed a powerful sixth sense for the deep, visceral communication of music and thus makes a valuable contribution of fresh ideas and initiatives that are aligned with established themes.

Soundtrack Sample
We decided to share an excerpt from the soundtrack. As you listen to the ambient theme just imagine launching from a Confederation carrier. We feel confident the final soundtrack will reflects the epic scope of the game while giving the players a subtle sense of its grandness.

I like the feel to the piece. Oftentimes projects aim to have an entirely removed and different kind of sound to them, but I\'m impressed how the music your team has employed has such a familiar tone to it despite its originality. My compliments to Mr. Ball for his outstanding work. Looking forward to hearing what else gets composed. :)
I also find that the piece, itself, lends a bit more emotionality to the scope of the game, in the form of being almost stress-inducing...or, to take it to another range, an impending near-impossible task at hand with the full weight of the consequences of your success or failure resting squarely on your shoulders......a fantastic feel to be having when delving into the realm of one of Confed\'s Finest defenders. :)
Jeff\'s work is very good and definitely gets the Oldziey style sound! I have a few \"other\" tracks around here like battle 1/2/3, victory and arrival tracks. They all sound brilliant! ;)Quote :
It\'s definitely got that synthesized sound.
It may sound a bit like its ran through a old school synth to you now, but thats because we have all been spoiled by such good game audio quality for so long. Also, music like this is hard to pull off with samples, all those string runs, it is very hard to not sound like poo! Most game composers don\'t even bother trying to do this kind of thing, and if they do its usually the big guys using live orchestras.
Not to detract from the subject matter of this post, but you asked me to send you some voice-tests for possibly voice acting within the game. I\'ve created a packet of them and would like to send them to you, but I can\'t seem to find the e-mail. I went ahead and tested both Kilrathi and Confed lines. Figured that I might as well play as much of the spectrum as possible.
TolwynI\'d had trouble sending the e-mail(s) containing my soundfiles the first couple of times, but I actually got it complete and sent when I split it into two e-mails.
I was hoping you could tell me whether they got there or not so that I know whether I need to explore alternate routes of getting them to you.
Great!!! Justy love the sound of it. I feel 10 years younger again! The music sample is simply perfect for this game, you can see (ahem, hear) the guy is really doing this in a professional way, just like the rest of the Saga crew. And is it only my immagination or is there a litte mix of Warcraft 2-3 tunes? Not that I mind, it gives the music all the more an epic tone :-)Only one bit of a problem there guys.....with all this great stuff you have been releasing every week, I don\'t think I can manage to wait \'till 28XX for this mod. Tolwyn, WE WANT IT NOW! (next month would be ok too :-P)
