As a part of our development process, the visual style of Wing Commander Saga continues to evolve. One of our design goals is to give attention to each detail, creating a high quality visual, audio, game play, and dramatic experience. In this design philosophy details matter. This week, we would like to showcase our new Confed missiles.
Saga team member limdaepl brought his creative talent to the task of updating the look of our missiles. We are trying to be faithful to the original design of the Wing Commander missiles while bringing them into the artistic style of Saga. Check out the results in these screenshots.

re: Nice
Wing Commander missiles were supposed to be used both in space and in atmosphere, so they\'ve got both fins and thrusters. Our most advanced missiles today, like the AIM 9X sidewinder, and the C model of the AIM-120 AMRAMM, and the European ASRAMM (I still get chuckles when I say that) are going towards smaller canards. Reason is thrust vectoring, it plays more of a part of the manueverability then fins.

Well, in case you didn\'t know, that technology has been invented by the Russians. They had the first trust vector missiles and target track visor pilot helmets.

Since missiles are part of the Techroom you will get your chance to see them close up.
As for ingame. Yes most of them you won\'t see in detail that much during a fight, except for torpedos and capmissle. These are big enough to see the details.
Take it as it is. A nice detail you can watch or leave. It dosn\'t hurt you and it didn\'t hurt us creating it. ^_^

Hi.
First off all. Keep up the good Work.
But I\'m a little confused.
Those are Missles Used mostly in Space.
So Why are the Texture saying AIM XXX (Anti Air Missle)?
Shouldn\'t it be called ASM (Anti Ship Missle) ACSM (Anti Cap Ship Missle)?
But it\'s just a minor Glitch i thought of.

There are 2 confirmed missile designations in the video when Rachel shows Blair his loadout: AIM 15 Javelin and AIM 31 Pilum. We had to stick to the canon on this one, even if in the future we might be contradicted in the numbering case, (which I think is rather unlikely considering we\'re talking about wc3 era missiles).
Lance and Caps Missile are designated ASM-xx though. ;)

I like the images. It looks like you used the pictures from the WC4 guide as your source for the designs as the Dumbfire is long and slender rather than the wide body weapon we see in the WC3 lode out screen. Something that is amazing is that these in game models are more detailed than the old ones from the WC4 cut-scenes.
Another thing that stands out is the presence of the Leech Missile. Last year I fiddled around with a the weapons.tbl file to try and make one by modifying a copy of the Imrec data. What I got did a decent job but had to be specifically preset for the type of target that was being engaged(fighter , transport, .etc) as I could not link the intensity of the disruptor and EMP effects to the damage ratio. How did you get around that problem?

One thing I don\'t get though, these are used in space, so why they got fins on em? They should have thrusters on em. ;)
