Gameplay Complete

Greetings to all. We would like to give you some great news about the development of Wing Commander Saga.

The Wing Commander Saga main campaign will consist of 7 episodes and will have a grand total of 50 missions. We are happy to announce that as of a few days ago, all of the missions for the first 6 episodes are now "gameplay complete".

What that means is each of those missions is now completely playable. However, there is a difference between "gameplay complete" and "done". "Gameplay complete" means all the enemies, objectives, secondary goals, and so forth are in place and functional, so that you could play through the mission and the whole thing would work. To get to "done", there is some additional art that needs to be added, as well as the ever present process of polishing and refining balance.

However, we are very excited to reach the "gameplay complete" milestone on the vast majority of the missions. The game is almost completely playable, and now it is time to add the real detail work.

-Tolwyn

Yes No I wish I could give a definitive release date, but I can\'t. There is still a lot of work to be done: cgi cutscenes, comm animations, ship model polishing, voice acting.

Before I get any further though, I want to talk about the team working on this thing. These guys are the most dedicated and talented guys I\'ve ever worked with. They\'re putting in countless hours right now as we make the final push towards alpha. The effort is really paying off too, the game is really starting to look and play great.

One issue that\'s tough to crack though, is finding more folks to work on the game. We could use more people to help us make things done faster. There are likely to be some talented people wondering by to take a look at this, so here\'s what we need: C and C++ programmers, modellers, 2D artists, 3D animators, composers and, of course, voice actors.

Nice Job! Yes No Eggsellent work. I\'ve been playing Prologue from day one of its release and I can\'t wait to see the final product. You all have done a wonderful job capturing the look and feel of the WCU. In addition, your mod techniques for FS2 are by far the best of all mods I\'ve seen. THANKS!!!!!!!!! !

Yes No hehe, I also followed this project for more than 5 years without ever writing anything here. I still remember one of the old homepages saying \"Release: 2003\" but I can wait and I will wait as long as it takes. :grin

Yes No Yes, I remember that website well. To tell the truth, the game was going to be released in 2004, as a Wing Commander 4 total conversion mod for Freespace 2 (the WC4 tech demo is utilizing the models we made back then). It was with a heavy heart that we decided to stop further development. After a long disucssion we have reached the conclusion that the storyline was not on track to meet the high quality standards set by the team and by the Wing Commander label. That is how today\'s Wing Commander Saga was born and that is the reason for a \'slight\' delay.

Yes No I don\'t mind the delay - I don\'t have to work for this lot, so I\'m happy to get it when ever :-)

Yes No I answered a similar question just yesterday http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,44324.msg1158268.html#msg1158268. There are no plans for a Russian release (although I know that there are a lot of Wing Commander fans in Russia). It is certainly doable - I could oversee the translation myself, I do speak Russian very well. However, the translation and voice acting should be done by an external group, we simply do not have time and ressouces to do it ourselfs.
