What´s your Strategy agains't bomber waves? was created by thiagomarinho
What are your toughts on the subject?

First Approach
- Burns plus glide on the Excalibur
- Pick the last bomber in line
- After the fighter is in range, Speed down to have time to shoot
- Approach on a cute angle (~30º)
- Full energy to guns (Switch Shield up after 2nd Kill)
- Avoid to get in front of fighters
- Always approach on an interception vector

Usually able to pick 3/4 of a wing on first round, After that
- Burn to another squadron if there's lot of traffic on your six
- In close range go after the torps aimed at the ships near you (B key)
- On long missions, your life is worth more, remember no to blow up!

What you guys think that works best against those enormous waves of bombers and fighters against our confed ships?

my anti-bomber strategy is simple
1. set game to very easy
2. employ stupid brute force
3. find time to look at all the pretty explosions

i usually set 90% power to guns, 10% to shield, and use afterburner. i find myself often saying "NEXT" out loud, because of how quickly you can waste bombers in the excalibur. 5-7 a minute is common. just afterburn it into the group of em, pick the one closest to you, waste it with a few good shots, pick next closest one, repeat until you have 90 kills a mission :)

Enemy 1 Engage with guns, if/when he rolls out switch to enemy 2
Enemy 2 Engage with missile and guns (Boom)
Enemy 3 Engage with missile and guns (Boom)
Enemy 4 engage with missile and guns (Boom)
Enemy 1 If this one is still alive pitch up until your inverted short burst with guns (Boom)
Practice until you get them all on the first pass.

I afterburn to close the distance to them, then match speed and fly alongside them at about 2000 distance; glide, then turn to face them and full power to guns. That way I'm outside of the turret arc and I don't have to adjust very far at all to fire on each subsequent target. If there's fighter screen and they happen to get a lock, I'm already pointed perpendicular for a quick missile dodge, just have to disengage glide and re-engage afterburner.

Because it uses glide, can only do it in an Arrow or Excalibur, but that's where most of the hard bomber interception missions are anyway!

- dumbfire missiles (one hit, one kill), fired at short range (obviously)
- 0% engine, the rest 50/50 shield/guns
- find the nearest bomber group (B key repeatedly), kill all the group, switch the next nearest bomber
The bad thing is the B key : it only targets the next bomber in sequential order and not the nearest one. You sometimes pass more time finding the nearest one than actually fight it.

The deadlyest are the Pakthans and their mobile turrets. When you are near a group from any position, you take serious damage (hi, sam ; ), so never stay close. Use afterburn speed to approach, a dumbfire or two to lower the number and when you start firing at one, keep your target until the kill - but keep your speed up, if your guns are empty, take distance and make another pass.
I was killed so many times by wings of Pakthans when I lower my speed, aiming at one and waiting for the guns to reload...
The difficulty level setting has a great impact on the turrets firing rate. Just between easy and normal there's a big gap.

Hmm, didn't think of that. Given the damage inflicted by imrecs, I'd say this remains true even at higher difficulty levels. Thanks for the advice. ;)

Sounds familiar. :D I really hope we can get this patch into Saga once they release the source code.

In a fighter capable of gliding, bombers are not much of a problem, but without glide, it gets difficult. Especially the rear turret is annoying. So I always try to approach the wing from the "blind spot" where neither the guns nor the turret can fire on me, but as the fighter can't glide, I have to follow them (matching their speed) and be careful that the shields don't fail before I took out the last one. As Pakthans are slow, I set engines lower and give the energy to the shields. If there are too many of them, one or two missiles can be helpful. I use almost the same tactics for Vaktoths, which are, like Pakthans, slow and have a rear turret.

a less advisable strategy: make a run for the whole line attacking from the side and straf at as many as you can.
Do this right and most of the bombers will abort their torpedorun to kill you  now you have most likely safed your capship and all you need to do is save your own hide.

IF you survive long enough you might draw them into the crossfire of your thankfull capships where they should persih.
