Guys:

I have heard that an updated version of Saga (with a few minor doo dads ironed out) is in the offing.
Two questions:

Any idea if this is in fact true?
Also:
If I download this new version will my saved games & the progress I've made be lost?
Finally:
Kind of like you guys can capture cut scenes for viewing in the tech room, will they also capture Venom's & Deathfang's mutual trash talk? Those two are just comic "gold";

It is. At the beginning only to make it possible to translate all texts. But now WCS+ have a lot of new features and improvements.

Just for the record: where do you heard about it?

WCS+ is part of the german translation project "WCS Deutsch-Mod" and it is a improved engine for the The Darkest Dawn mod. There are also improvements at mod level. First we must finish our translation project, then i will create a new team for migrate all improvements back to WCS classic.

Here the status threads at wcsaga.org for both projects, translated with google:

WCS Plus (the list of changes is very big now. ^^ See post #3)

It was my top priority that all old savegames work together with WCS+. So no, you don't loose the old savegames. You can use old savegames, they will automatically expanded to the WCS+ savegame format.

I extended the profile system and added several bug fixes and new features. As example it's possible to transfer all settings from the current loaded pilot to a new pilot profile. So it's no longer needed to setup all things again, if you wish to restart WCS with a completely new pilot.

In techroom you can see all cutscenes and in simulator you can replay all missions. This is a dialogue during a mission so there is no movie for that and you can't see it in the techroom. We don't add this as movie there.

I just found out abou this as well. Great news, but have you considered rebasing WCS on the latests FSO releases? I ask because I moved over to linux-land sometime ago and would love to be able to play the updated version. I understand that WCSs is Windows-dependent right now? There was an attempt at a port over at HLP ( www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=85375.0 ), it supposedly works but I haven't tried it out yet. Plus you'd get a ton of improvements and bugfixes right off the bat. Anyways, great to see this being worked on again!

I think there was some talk between Luke and Karajorma about that, but my understanding was that Luke would rather stick to the WCS codebase and work on it straight away rather than wait for WCS features to be backported to FSO. Luke would have to confirm (or deny) that however.

IIRC, MattTheGeek's original release allowed you to run the game and create missions, but not play the campaign. I tried to expand on that a while back, along with backporting a few features, but kinda lost interest. I you are interested, you can check out my github repo , although you'll need to compile an .exe using my WCS-Open branch to play the game. I haven't done anything on it in over a year, but IIRC the main obstacle to playing missions is the launch event: your wingmen get stuck colliding with the fighterbay exit. I think the game also crashes whenever there is a command briefing, so a few missions (including the first one I believe) can't be launched due to that.

No and i never will. ;)

This is not suited for WCS and i don't support this, also for several reasons. The only officially engine for WCS:TDD is WCS and it came from the WCS team. And the only officially engine for the WCSD:TDD project is WCS+ and it came from me. If WCS:TDD can be running in the future on WCS Open: good. If not: not my problem.

Sounds harsh? Yes it does. But after I read absolutely bullshit from several persons from HLP especially from one specific person, I have good reasons to be pissed off.

I had also built in lot of new features and bug fixes into WCS+, you can see this in the changelist I linked in my previous post.
