Ok thanks Tolwyn. Tried that and nothing. I also tried my x360 gamepad and that also has no response.
The only other device i have plugged in the usb is mouse and saitek keyboard.

Ok try the following hack.
Open the registry (with regedit.exe) and navigate here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Volition\WingCommanderSaga
Then check the value with the name CurrentJoystick
It probably says "0"
Try different values here, 1, maybe 2. See if that changes anything.
Do however NOT start the game via the launcher after this change. Otherwise it will be overwritten. Start the game by directly launching the main executable, located in the game's directory, called wcsaga_sse2.exe.
Please report back if that helps.

Thanks for helping. Yes it does say 0. However, i have made progress by disconnecting my keyboard (saitek eclipse) the features of this keyboard seem to be preventing the inputs from the stick. I have got it working, but for the life of me i cannot get the stick to pitch up or pitch sideways in the first mission. However the twist axis does work for banking. The controls will let me set the pitch axis in the game, but in the mission only the num keys work to control them. Will try your fix right now.

File this one as solved guys. The key here for those with Saitek keyboards, is to disable "virtual keyboard" in device manager. Also make sure you have mouse control set to off. Im flying now thanks for all your help!!!!

Really like it! Much better graphics than previous WC titles. Did the first two prologue missions, but.. how do you save tha game? Just loaded the game again and it appears i have to start all over.

Also make sure that you have the mouse unchecked in the controls page.

Come again? In the first screen of the game, you enter your pilot's name right?
When you restart the game, you select that pilot again. Then when you go and continue the campaign (door marked "ready room") you should continue with the next uncompleted mission. Is that not the case for you?

It is not.
I did the first two missions (keep in mind this is prologue) and exited. I did look for a place to save the game, and did not see one. So i restarted, and when i load my pilot it takes me right back to the beginning. Before i start again, just wondering what i need to do to not lose my progress. BTW thanks for your help

Ok THAT is strange...
A few questions:
- To what directory did you install your game?
Go to C:\Users\[YourName]\Documents\Volition\Wing Commander Saga\data\players\single
- Does that directory exist?
- Does it contain these two files?
[Pilotname].pl2
[Pilotname].prologue.cs2 (or if you're playing the main campaign [Pilotname].codename_hermes.cs2)
- How did you "exit" after completing the missions.
