Game Won't even start any suggestions
by Eric Ross » Fri Mar 23, 2012 6:40 am
Hello,
A little frustrated here. Game crashes immediately upon starting either from the launcher or the exe file. I get the encountered a problem and needs to close error. More information shows AppName: wcsaga_sse2.exe AppVer: 1.0.2.7795 ModName: wcsaga_sse2.exe
ModVer: 1.0.2.7795 Offset: 00003b14
There is an error report being generated by dr.watson but windows is not saving the file. There is an exception error occurring.
I have an amd xp2600 processor running windows xp service pack 3, 1 gig of ram. Video card is geforce 6600. I know requirements say 2 gigs of ram . Has anybody run with less?
I have tried everything. Video card drivers are updated. I installed the game twice both times in different directories. I have tried changing settings in the launcher to no sound and different video resolutions. The exe simply crashes and is not even getting started. I turned off any and all background programs such as antivirus and such.
I doubt its a hardware issue as I have no problems with any other games or software at this time. I guess my big question is this crashing because I don't have 2 gigs of ram.
Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.
Thanks for your time.
Eric

If you're not running Windows Xp, right click on the exe file and run Troubleshoot Compatibility (or something like that).

Got the same problem here.
Once i click run it, i get an Data Execution Prevention Error, after that the "..has encountered an problem and needs to close.." Error. When i shut the DEP off for the game, i still get an "...has encountered an problem and needs to close.." Error. I tried diffrent graphic settings and sound settings with the same result. I tried it without the OpenAL installed that comes with the game and with it installed with the same effect.
It also does not save the error report, allthought it says it does.
I am running Windows XP SP3 32bit with an AMD Phenom II X6 CPU and an ATI Radeon HD 5700, and have 3,12 gb Ram.

There is an ATI issue we know of, but for nVidia, I have seen a problem. I initial ran Prologue on 768 megs without issue, other than slow. Here is the link to the ATI resolution

Thanks for the answer, but i just noticed AMD has released a new Driver Version. Installed it and now with 12.3 it seems to run now without problems. Before i had 12.2
It started and i could see the first cutscene and got to the briefing, unfortantly i have to go to work now so i cant play at the moment, do see if there is a problem for me if you start playing the game. But i guess i am good to kill some Kilrathi
