Only Software audio device

The latest OpenAL version is 2.0.7.0 as far as I know and there is only one version. The only version mentioning either 32 or 64 bit is from 2007 (two years older then 2.0.7.0). Guess I'll stick with the newer version then.

PS: Am using Win7 Professional 64bit by the way. Guess it makes no difference, just wanted to mention it.

Well it reads

"The Generic Hardware device will no longer be available, as it requires the use of hardware DirectSound 3D Buffers. Instead, this device will gracefully, and automatically, fallback to using the Generic Software device, which will continue to work as before."

And this from Vista on forward, that would include Win7. But Anyhow. As long as it works...

Edit: Having read it further: Generic Hardware is no longer supported. Device specific hardware support might be depending on the device. So it seems your current sounddevice doesn't support a specific hardware device on OpenAL.

Can you go in your registry to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Volition\WingCommanderSaga

and tell me what it says under SoundDeviceOAL?

If it says "none" or anything you might want to try putting "Generic Hardware" or "Generic Software" in there.

It says Generic Software on Realtek Digital Output (Realtek High Definition Audio)

It may case that you're using the wrong output. Most conventional speakers don't use the "Digital" output; if you're not sure whether you're speakers are hooked up to the digital output, it's a pretty safe bet that they aren't. You probably want to be using something like "Generic Software on Speakers," or some such option.

Generic Software on Speaker (Realtek High Definition Audio) - the exact wording might be a bit different, that was a rough German translation.

I have same problem on win7 x64. And i follow you instruction. But when i input this:

"Generic Hardware" or "Generic Software" and run game, system turn on youself to "no sound" position
