I am very impressed as well... I am just nitpicking here, but no, I think the guy is just a bad actor. Had I known about this project before four days ago I would've offered to chip in my voiceover services. Oh well.. maybe if they ever patch it in.

long dialog cut short i'm of the opinion that the only people who would notice or care about flaws in wcsaga's voice-acting and writing either consume so much content they become connoisseurs or have experience as professional content creators. the average player is just happy that after a long drought they have a space combat sim to play that maybe one of the most polished to date FOR FREE

I'm sure this has all probably been said, but I will add my thoughts.

My biggest problem is that a lot of the speech, seems stilted and almost devoid of either personality or emotion vs what is going on in the scene.

Sweeney for instance, appears to be one of the most stilted. It feels very rehearsed and like she is just reading what is on the page, without putting anything into the performance. Just getting her VA to speak in a more relaxed tone, and perhaps improvise a little, would go light years towards her character.

I have to say, most of the pilots themselves were exceptionally voiced, and they had real personalities.

I thought M.D was a pretty accurate parody, but I cringed, literally CRINGED when he mispronounced Vicodin. It's Vike-a-DIN, not Vike-o-DEEN.

The only other major complaint I have, is that you have inconsistent pronounciation of the same word used by multiple characters.. I don't know if that was just a subtle dig at realism, but most people are used to scripted game characters pronouncing words in a uniform manner.. Mind you I'm not talking about accents, I'm talking how the word actually sounds (see above Vicodin reference).

It felt jarring to have one guy say a word one way, and then in the briefing immediately after, the word is said another way.

But overall, the game is an amazing accomplishment for an indie volunteer group.

Sorry, but "its free so shut up" is not a valid criticism of other peoples criticisms.
Whether or not some of us are professional or above-average in things like acting, writing, or whatever is irrelevant to the point of giving feedback.

The criticisms come because we love the game, but had experiences which removed our suspension of disbelief long enough to jar us from the game world.

And I would think as gamers who have been gaming for years (since the game is obviously made for Wing Commander fans first) people have plenty of experience dealing with great games, and less than stellar games, and that experience counts for something. Our feedback helps improve the product.

You'll always have people who criticize for the sake of it, but that is not a defense against any criticism, of any aspect of the game at all.

We are well aware that not every voice acting is at its best. But keep in mind that most voice actors did this at home, not in a studio, anything the director could do was ask them for retakes and give comments because no real immediate directing was possible and over 60 voice actors had to record all these lines within a few months with only one person casting, supervising and cutting, directing, and putting the assets into the game. That simply is not the best way to do that, and it makes it incredibly hard for both the developers AND the actors. But with what he has available I think everybody achieved a very very good quality.

That is the common issue with the project: when it mattered nobody bothered to help out. Fun times.

Post their details and we'll harass them for you. Perhaps even sexually, if I'm drunk enough.
